Halloween With a Little Sex Appeal

With Halloween quickly approaching, Humber students are once again scrambling to find the perfect costume.

Party Packagers offers a wide selection of costumes for the female looking to venture into the risqué this Halloween.

Tying into the suddenly popular again Batman theme is a variation Batgirl costume available for $69.99, vastly different from anything you might remember from the corny ‘60s series.

Also available is a large series of Goth style costumes, most priced affordably around the $30 range.

For students looking to go all out this year, the Stag Shop sells a selection of costumes that might cause a bit of a stir at your Halloween party.

With prices ranging from $35 to $95, the selection may be a bit more pricey, but if it’s an eye catching costume you’re going for, you’ll definitely find it at the Stag Shop.

Students looking to spend as little as possible without resorting to wearing a white sheet and being a ghost can toss together some clothes already in their wardrobe and come up with something fun, much like first-year Business Management student Sarah Salvador is doing.

“I haven’t decided yet but I’m leaning towards something like a Charlie’s Angel. Last year I was an army girl, which was pretty fun. I always try to wear something different every year, it makes it more fun,” Salvador said.

One thing that does bother Salvador is the overly sexual tones that some people display with the Halloween costumes they’ve chosen.

“It takes the fun out of Halloween because no one wants to be something embarrassing like a clown anymore,” Salvador said. “It’s always like a playboy bunny or something. It’s like girls use it as an excuse to dress in skimpy outfits and try to pick up guys. I guess it can be fun, but it gets overdone when it becomes just about that.”

Sarah Mazari, a first-year Business Administration student, likes the idea of having some sex appeal in your costume choice, but in moderation.

“I was thinking of dressing up as a nurse, a sexy nurse,” said Mazari. “I never wear anything too revealing.”

Mazari brings up the point that the occasion does offer the opportunity for girls to do something out of the norm.

“Halloween brings up the chance for girls to dress up and wear something provocative, without having everyone look at them in a bad way. It gives you the chance to get away with wearing something you would never be able to every other day of the year,” Mazari said.
