Orangeville in Pictures

Posted in Uncategorized on December 5, 2005 by MarkEightThree

The following images are a photo story I completed while taking photography in my first year of Journalism at Humber. The focus of the photo story is Orangeville’s downtown sector.

I was inspired to do my photo story on Orangeville’s downtown area because of its rich heritage and blended styles of old tradition and new retail zone. Some of the buildings in the town’s downtown core date back to the mid 1800’s. These buildings are now being converted into and combined with new retail stores that continue to pop up as Orangeville’s population rises. It’s not uncommon to see something like Hardcore Soundz, a music shop for the younger generation, right next to a historic site which held town meetings in the early 1900’s. New structures are being added to the area all the time, such as the carvings which decorate many of the corners on Broadway. Ironically, the Downtown strip sums itself up with one concept. At the start of the strip, a brand new McDonald’s restaurant with a huge playground sits at the corner, while at the end of the strip lies a huge farm still populated by horses and other animals.
