The songs of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Although the career mode of Guitar Hero II only featured 48 songs, the ability to purchase extra tracks through the in-game store as well as online through the Xbox Live Marketplace bumped up the final track list to nearly 100 tunes. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will be no different as there are 63 songs already confirmed for the game with Neversoft promising even more tracks for download on XBLM.

Interestingly enough, Billboard recently announced that a soundtrack will be released on October 30th, 2007 that will not only feature tracks from the game [including a GHIII intro written by Slash], but will also include a code to download three exclusive songs for us in the game: AFI’s “Carcinogen Crush,” Flyleaf’s “Tina” and Marilyn Manson’s “Putting Holes in Happiness” remixed by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. IGN is reporting that the CD should retail for approximately $13.

Making his first appearance in the GH series along with Slash and Tom Morello is Bret Michaels, lead singer of Poison and star of VH1′s Rock of Love. The golden-haired glam-rocker will provide vocals for two tracks, Poison’s metal classic “Talk Dirty to Me” and “Go That Far,” the theme song from Michaels’ reality show. Neversoft went the full nine and and had Michaels motion captured as well as scanned to capture his likenesses.

Several tracks from the game also had to be re-recorded because of problems arising with the song’s masters. Living Colour pumped out a new version of their classic “Cult of Personality” while the Sex Pistols re-recorded their punk anthem “Anarchy in the U.K.”

Personally, I’m looking forward to throwing down Muse’s “Knights of Cydonia”. It’s one of those absurd tracks that is just fun to listen to, let alone rock along to on a plastic guitar. Check out this awesome tune from Muse’s 2006 album Black Holes and Revelations. If you haven’t given this album a spin yet, this should motivate you:

Guitar Hero III is scheduled to drop on October 28th in North America, available by itself or bundled with the new Gibson Les Paul controller. As for our next preview, we’ll be taking a look at the aforementioned axe making it’s debut with the game.
