Sights from around the MLS All-Star Game

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on July 28, 2008 by MarkEightThree

Noticed how I said ‘from around’ up there? It’s because I didn’t actually get into the game. Tickets were available for the game, but not at a price that was anywhere near reasonable. I have to hand it to the organizers of the All-Star game though, there were plenty of things going on around BMO Field for those interested in the beautiful game.

A beer garden in BMO’s East parking lot was the venue for UK artist Estelle’s performance of ‘American Boy’ at halftime. There was also a big screen to catch the game which was talking place just a few streamer tosses away.

The TFC Massive was it’s usual self, going strong for the total 90 and making the most noise for hometown boys Jim Brennan and Dwayne DeRosario. Amongst a sea of MLS stars, it was Cuauhtemoc Blanco and David Beckham that shone the brightest in the 3-2 MLS win over West Ham United.

The full Rock Band 2 Track List revealed!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on July 15, 2008 by MarkEightThree

Today at E3 Harmonix announced the setlist for their Rock Band follow-up erm… Rock Band 2. Can we get a subtitle on that name at least?

Anyways, RB2 will be bringing the goodness with some killer tracks seen below. Sure there are a few stinkers, but this is easily the greatest track listing ever assembled for a rhythm game.

Not only will you get to rock out to the 84 tracks included on the disc, but all previous DLC is fully compatible with Rock Band 2. And for those who were whining about not getting they’re ‘Maps’ and such in the sequel? Harmonix is including the ability to download all of the original Rock Band tracks to your hard drive for around $5.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!!! MTV and Harmonix will also make an additional 20 master tracks available as free DLC this fall. The tracks were intended to be a part of the retail disc, but due to size constraints they’re being tossed up on the marketplace for free. Awesome.

Here’s the full setlist, with my faves in orange [it's my blog afterall]: Read more »

Mo Johnston is bringing footy back

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on July 14, 2008 by MarkEightThree

From the Archives: In October 2006 I had the opportunity to interview Mo Johnston, who had just recently been appointed Head Coach of the newly created MLS soccer club Toronto FC. Johnston, a former Scottish striker who made his name playing for Celtic and the Rangers of the Scottish Premier League, had nothing but optimistic thoughts on the club’s future and looked forward to getting things started in Toronto.
. . . . . . . .

How did the plan to bring an MLS team to Toronto get set in motion?

Obviously the guys here at MLSE have done their homework. They’re diligent. They’ve invested money, they saw the under-20′s coming here and they knew there was a stadium being built and they were already on board. As soon as they got behind it, things became a realistic opportunity in terms of getting a stadium completed and contending for an MLS championship.

In terms of on-the-field success, what are your expectations for the first season of the Toronto FC?

I’m not going to be shouting crazy and stupid things about us winning a championship. What we’ll do is we’ll compete, we’ll do our homework in terms of scouting the good players here. We’ll work very hard. We have a roster of 18 with 10 development players. The 18 that are on the full roster will be paid, and the younger developmental group will obviously be sliced up from the league, which means these kids won’t make too much, but they’ll be making progress and hopefully they can get to the 18.

Rock Band 2 Shows off it’s FOO!

Harmonix debuted a new gameplay trailer for Rock Band 2 this weekend and while it doesn’t show any advancements over the original Rock opus, it does give rock-wannabes a good look at how awesome ‘Everlong’ is going to be.

Although I’m kind of disappointed that a sequel is being pushed out so soon after the original, I can see the logic in trying to put the kibosh on Guitar Hero: World Tour stealing the band-game spotlight. I’m not expecting to be blown away by RB2, but there are a few things that I’d love to see in the sequel:

“The rumors of E3′s death have been greatly exaggerated”

Posted in Uncategorized on July 12, 2008 by MarkEightThree

From the Archives: Shock waves were sent throughout the gaming scene when it was first announced that the ESA was killing the Electronic Entertainment Expo and rebuilding it as a much quieter affair. Many people saw it as the end of gaming’s mecca and were quick to find a successor to E3. Years later however, the demise of the expo might have been a little overstated as video game fans everywhere are still buzzing with excitement for Monday’s event just as they were years before. I’ve dug up this article that was written for the Humber Et Cetera about the whole brouhaha.

. . . . . .

Since 1995 the Electronic Entertainment Expo has been called the biggest annual event in the video game industry.

Now, gamers may refer to the Electronic Entertainment Expo (or E3), as done.

This past summer the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced that it will scale back the annual three day mega-event into a more intimate conference between software and hardware publishers and the gaming media, as well as retailers, developers and other key industry members. TFC v DC United photos from May

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on July 9, 2008 by MarkEightThree

Soccer is easily one of my favourite loves, and I’ve been trying to catch as many footy matches as possible this year. I’ve already been to a few TFC fixtures down at BMO and I was also able to take in a CSL match up in Brampton [wasn't too bad, but there was a lot to improve on].

I’m going to try and upload images from each match after they take place, starting with these images from the Toronto FC v DC United match that took place on May 21st. All images after the break!
