I found a great NXE Wallpaper template and decided to whip up a few themes for my fave machine. They might not have all the bells and whistles of the XBL Marketplace themes, but you will save yourself four bucks a pop. Look for more in the near future, but for now enjoy this batch of themes featuring a few Toronto indie musicians, DC and Marvel heroes and Toronto FC. Credit goes to J3 for the awesome MSTRKRFT illustration and the TeamXbox.com forums for providing the template.

Van Helsing’s hunt for Nosferatu continues in this fast and frantic survival shooter. With great visuals and gameplay that suits the iPhone platform perfectly, this title from More Games and Chillingo Ltd. provides big fun for a budget price. The games developer has promised more content in upcoming updates, but even it’s current form I highly recommend picking it up on the app store. Read more »

iPod Rainbow Ninja • Puzzle • Aresant Inc. • Buy It
Before you ask yourself whether or not you want to purchase Rainbow Ninja, ask yourself how many times you would enjoy doing this puzzle [say the word, not the color]. This technicolor ninja app may have a bit more depth than that, but not too much. Read more »
Massive tease for Mass Effect 2
Posted in Uncategorized with tags Games, Mass Effect, Xbox 360 on February 21, 2009 by MarkEightThreeBioWare has released a teaser for the next chapter in it’s amazing [and now mulit-platform] franchise Mass Effect. The first trailer doesn’t offer much info on the sequel but it does paint a bleak picture for Commander Shepard and the Normandy. If you haven’t played the original Mass Effect yet, hold out for just a wee bit longer and pick up the Platinum Hits edition. The new release is going to be packed with extra content including DLC pack Bring Down the Sky and a premium NXE theme for your Xbox 360.

In honor of the newly released GTA IV episode The Lost and Damned, Microsoft has added a slew of white-trash garments to their growing Avatar closet. All new items are free and are marked with a star in the Avatar section of the NXE.
Here’s the full list of what you can have your little guy rock while they beat up other unsuspecting Avatars for drug money:
- Chicks: Punk Tee, Black 60′s Boots, Leopard Print Leggings, Biker Jacket, Biker Gloves, Skull Wrist Band, Left Feather Earring, Right Feather Earring
- Dudes: Rocker Jacket, Pixie Boots, Grunge Pants, Metal Combats, Top Hat, Skull Ring, Leather Biker Gloves, Left Feather Earring, Right Feather Earring
Also, anyone who ever dreamed of making a Peggy Bundy Avatar can now die peacefully. And most likely alone.
iPhone’s Zombieville USA might be worth a visit
Posted in Uncategorized with tags Games, iPhone, iPod touch, Zombieville USA on February 16, 2009 by MarkEightThreeIt seems like the more lively the AppStore gets, the more undead it gets. Straight out of left field comes this great looking side-scrolling zombie shoot ‘em up similar in vein to the Alien Hominid series. So far the game has been getting some fairly positive feedback from the forums over at TouchArcade [by far my favourite app-centric destination]. I’m looking to pick it up so expect a review shortly. More info after the jump. Read more »

Posted in Uncategorized with tags EGM, Games, Mega64 on February 13, 2009 by MarkEightThreeA little old, but I forgot to post it earlier and it’s worth throwing up anyways. The guys at Mega64 do a great job of conveying the suck that is the cancellation of Electronic Gaming Monthly. EGM’s 1up crew has always been reliable when it comes to honest reviews and opinions, and they all managed to convey a sense of personality without resorting to lame false characters like the staff of GamePro. Aside from the editorial content, the layout and design of the mag has always wowed me and provided inspiration for many of my own design ventures. Alas, that’s all in the past and EGM is but a memory. Long live Ulysses Prance….. the first.
Review: Pour yourself an iPint this weekend
Posted in Uncategorized with tags Carling iPint, Games, iPhone, iPod touch, Reviews on February 11, 2009 by MarkEightThree
iPod Carling iPint • Racing • Beattie McGuinness Bungay • Buy It
The iPhone/touch has given people the ability to do just about anything anywhere, and now that includes taking a swig from a tall pint of Carling. Well, a virtual pint at least.
The goal of Carling iPint is to safely navigate our tall glass of brew from one side of the bar to the other while avoiding obstacles such as nut bowls, candles and other drunk patrons. There are three levels of play with beginner offering a straight and easy counter top, intermediate twisting things up a bit and advanced pushing your beer-tossing skills to the limit. Once you reach your pal’s hand on the other side of the bar you’re treated to a [spoiler alert?] freshly poured pint of Carling brew. It’s a game ending on par with some of the classics! Read more »
Harmonix hip to the iPhone Scene?
Posted in Uncategorized with tags Games, Harmonix, iPhone, iPod touch on February 11, 2009 by MarkEightThree
During an interview with Arstechnica.com, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos hinted that the Rock Band and Phase developers next big project might be something for Apple’s iPhone. Rigopulos didn’t come right out and state that something was in developement from his team, but the enthusiasm he displayed is enough to get any touch gamer excited at the possibilities.
“We could just do a port of Phase, but I’m wondering if there isn’t something that’s more ambitious that we could do as well. I don’t think we have any specific plans there yet, but needless to say, we’re looking at it,” commented Rigopulos.
Even though the App Store is already home to the awesome Tap Tap Revenge series, I would still love to see what the crew at Harmonix could bring to the table. Harmonix’s last title for the iPod platform was Phase back in 2007, which featured gameplay similar to the Rock Band and Guitar Hero series. The game was well-received thanks to it’s unique art style and ability to use tracks imported from your iPod during gameplay.
