Review: Rainbow Ninja must train harder

iPod Rainbow Ninja • Puzzle • Aresant Inc. • Buy It
Before you ask yourself whether or not you want to purchase Rainbow Ninja, ask yourself how many times you would enjoy doing this puzzle [say the word, not the color]. This technicolor ninja app may have a bit more depth than that, but not too much.
Gameplay consists of tapping the correct button that you’re prompted to, whether it be the color the word is written in or the color the word has spelled out. It sounds fairly simple, but when there’s a timer counting down and panic sets in, it’s anything but. As a free app this lack of depth might not be too big a deal, but if Rainbow Ninja expects to charge 99 cents and reel in some buyers it should really have made this title part of a larger Wario Ware style game. For what it’s worth it, Rainbow Ninja does include a ridiculous backstory involving a pirate trying to steal the colors of the rainbow. Seriously.
To call Rainbow Ninja even a mini-game would be a stretch. As part of a larger collection of micro-games this reflex tester might be worth the price of admission, but as it stands there’s just not enough bang for your buck in this app.
Aresant is currently running a top scores contest where quick tappers can win up to $500, but unfortunately the game lacks an online leaderboard so all scores must be submitted to the official site by video.
