UWA’s back from the dead and onto DVD

When the Hall of Saints is closed, the hardcore shall walk amongst the living…. and then entertain them once again on home video. UWA Hardcore’s triumphant return is now available to buy on the glorious format of DVD [Eat it Blu-ray, your small victory over HD-DVD proves nothing!] featuring the backstage antics of UWA’s regular cast of hooligans and the breathtaking art of Mr. Derek Laufman. Epic much? Yes, but Derek’s art on this release truly is amazing, especially for fans of George Romero and the Zombie genre.

After being unexpectedly stripped of their beloved St. John’s Hall back in mid-2007, UWA Hardcore was put into hibernation until early January, when Osiris and Joe E. Slick, UWA’s owners, announced that the fed had found a new home at Downsview Park in Toronto. With the stage set for an emotional return, UWA burst back onto the scene with a fairly strong show. Fans were treated to the surprise returns of both Petey Williams, who had not been seen in UWA since 2006, and UWA Lightweight Champ Horimi Horiguchi, who wasn’t announced nor expected to make the trip from Japan. There were a few kinks in the show to be worked out, but after being out of action for so long and debuting in a new venue, it was about as good as a return as UWA could have hoped for. The potential is definitely there for UWA to expand to new heights not yet reached by the fed.

UWA has begun producing highlight reels of their shows, with Resurrection being the first. Click here to pick up the show and to see the matches of UWA Hardcore Resurrection. Highlight reel after the break on the YouTube-powered Jeritron 100.

Yaris, you fail.

After exiting FIFA 08 last night I browsed my dashboard and discovered the next sure-fire candidate for game of the year was available for download on Xbox Live Arcade: YARIS~!

You ever wonder why there’s starving kids in Africa? Yaris. It is quite simply the root of all the world’s problems. This could quite possibly the worst game ever created [and I refuse to use the term 'advergame']. The sheer horribleness of this game is so incredible, you’ll wonder how they pulled it off. It gets so many things wrong that the fact that it’s free shouldn’t even be a redeeming quality. Bad PSone level graphics? Check. Gameplay where you have no idea whether you’re winning or losing? Double check. And finally, character and level design so bad it makes Superman 64 look like Gears of War? You guessed it, checkeroo.  I mean, why would a Yaris hate a flying box-shaped owl?

Halo Three is in my Xbox 360.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on September 25, 2007 by MarkEightThree

It’s six in the morning and I’m still playing Halo 3. In between having massive amounts of fun, I’m thanking baby Jesus that my Xbox 360 hasn’t RRODed yet.

I’m a total unapologetic nerd, so I feel fine admitting that in order to get the full experience, I’ve actually saved the two bottles of Mountain Dew Game Fuel that I picked up in Michigan [couldn't find it anywhere in the Toronto area, arrggh!] so I could chug them down while finishing the fight. Shoot me.

As for the game itself, it’s awesome. I’ll write more about it once I find the time [aka I pull myself away from my long enough to do something else]. However, you can rest assured that the game has so far been fun, challenging, and although nowhere near as pretty as Gears of War, sexy as hell. There are about a million Xbox Live options that will take some getting used to, but thats all in due time.

Anyone looking to meetup in Halo 3 [or throw down some UNO, which I've become crazy good at lately] add me as a friend on Xbox Live and we’ll get to it.

Hour of the Dragon arrives on DVD

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on February 13, 2007 by MarkEightThree

UWA LogoAt this Friday’s UWA Hardcore Wrestling event, the Missisauga-based wrestling federation will release their newest DVD titled UWA Hardcore Wrestling: Hour of the Dragon. As a special attraction main event, the January show featured Japanese legends Black Tiger and Ultimo Dragon colliding in a great one on one match-up. Also on the card were many stars of TNA and MTV’s Wrestling Society X, including Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Ruckus, MDogg20, Tyler Black, Puma, Sonjay Dutt and Ruckus. UWA Hardcore always goes out of their way to put on some great events, and Hour of the Dragon was no exception. This month should be an especially big month for them as they prepare to put on two big shows, including their first ever King of the Deathmatch tournament on their old stomping grounds at the Bolton Fairgrounds.

I’ve been following and attending UWA Hardcore shows since way back on October 29, 2004, so getting a chance to work with them has been a joy for me. I’ve written for their website before, but getting the chance to design January’s DVD has been a highpoint as I really admire the work of Derek Laufman. Hopefully the fans of UWA Hardcore will notice and enjoy the extra work that has gone into the DVD, as I really feel UWA now has one of the best looking DVD packages on the indie wrestling market. Tribute Out and About

Last semester I got the chance to intern at Tribute Magazine, the largest in-theatre magazine across Canada. When I was younger, getting a free copy of Tribute was almost as exciting as watching the movie itself, so actually having the opportunity to contribute to it was pretty surreal to me. I haven’t had the chance to make a post about this before, but the issues in which I have work published are currently floating around theatres. If you can’t get a copy of the mag but would still like to check out what I’ve written, check out the links to Tribute.ca below:

PGZine Issue Two Available Now

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on November 23, 2006 by MarkEightThree

Ladies and Gentlemen, Let's Pop!It’s finally here. After eight months of waiting, PGZine Issue Two finally drops. Although I wasn’t involved with Issue One, I do remember grabbing it the day it came out and being impressed with it. Now of course, I’m the Editor of the mag and I think we’ve brought it to a whole new level. We’ve got a ton of new features such as the Spotlight, where we discuss the podcasts we’re hearting at the moment and Newswire, where you’ll find news from North America, Japan and the UK. Plus we’ve got a ginormous amount of previews and reviews for PSP and DS owners to read.

On one hand I’m happy to bring PSP owners brand new content that’s great and free, but on the other hand I think it kind of sucks that there aren’t way more owners in the first place. The PSP deserves much more recognition than it’s getting at the moment and hopefully Sony sticks to their guns and promotes the hell out of the PSP alongside the PS3. I guess a price drop or two wouldn’t be so bad either. Maybe some free pre-loaded porn, who knows.

Check out the magazine and let me know what you think, or head over to the Bmashers forum and leave some comments there. Also don’t forget to visit PGZine.com, where you can download every issue of PGZine including Issue One and Mini Issue Three, which I also created. PGRevolution Magazine Issue Two, available on shelves now. Get it!
