Little kids jamming to Rock Band…

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on August 12, 2010 by MarkEightThree

…is totally awesome to watch. My nephew didn’t even have a proper pair of drumsticks, he lost one chasing his cat or something and now uses his mom’s wooden spoon to rock out. There is hope for this generation!

I’m a Gamerscore Whore and these are my favourite Achievements.

It wasn’t until my Gamerscore hovered around the 20K mark that I realized I was a full blown Gamerscore Whore.  When I first got my Xbox 360 I barely thought about it aside from an initial “Huh, that’s pretty cool.” A few years later and I now live for this meaningless little number next to my GamerTag. Rock Band Network goes live for Xbox 360

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on March 5, 2010 by MarkEightThree

The Rock Band Network unexpectedly launched it’s awesomeness on the world yesterday, bringing with it the largest ever DLC addition to a music game. The RBN operates in Rock Band 1 and 2 as it’s own music store, with the option to download 30-45 second demos before deciding to purchase the full track. Songs are also split into different categories than the RB Music Store, with Harmonix offering their own top 10 selections among other options. The fastest way to browse all tracks right now is by sorting them as decades, but on first impression it seems to me that navigating through the RBN might become a bit cumbersome as it gains size.

Hopefully Harmonix will make the store browseable through an online portal similar to Xbox.com’s LIVE Marketplace. Then again, when your biggest problem is that there is too much content available, I wouldn’t be worried too much. Still nothing from Last Gang Records though. Dammit. Check out the full tracklist after the break! Read more »

I Give You…. Rouge Allez 1983

Harmonix may have stripped Rock Band 2 of it’s Juke Box mode, but they were nice enough to update RockBand.com with a plethora of snazzy new features. The snapshot feature has already provided me with the chance to plaster my faux band on everything imaginable [Rouge Allez 1983 FTW!]. I decided to retire my original band My Forbidden Crush and start a new cover band based off the defunct Toronto-area group Death From Above 1979. Aside from tooling around with that every now and then, I’ve also been putting a decent amount of time into the game itself. I actually managed to lose my voice belting out “Living on a Prayer!” Read more »

The full Rock Band 2 Track List revealed!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on July 15, 2008 by MarkEightThree

Today at E3 Harmonix announced the setlist for their Rock Band follow-up erm… Rock Band 2. Can we get a subtitle on that name at least?

Anyways, RB2 will be bringing the goodness with some killer tracks seen below. Sure there are a few stinkers, but this is easily the greatest track listing ever assembled for a rhythm game.

Not only will you get to rock out to the 84 tracks included on the disc, but all previous DLC is fully compatible with Rock Band 2. And for those who were whining about not getting they’re ‘Maps’ and such in the sequel? Harmonix is including the ability to download all of the original Rock Band tracks to your hard drive for around $5.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!!! MTV and Harmonix will also make an additional 20 master tracks available as free DLC this fall. The tracks were intended to be a part of the retail disc, but due to size constraints they’re being tossed up on the marketplace for free. Awesome.

Here’s the full setlist, with my faves in orange [it's my blog afterall]: Read more »

X360 Preview: Rock Band 2

Rock Band 2 Shows off it’s FOO!

Harmonix debuted a new gameplay trailer for Rock Band 2 this weekend and while it doesn’t show any advancements over the original Rock opus, it does give rock-wannabes a good look at how awesome ‘Everlong’ is going to be.

Although I’m kind of disappointed that a sequel is being pushed out so soon after the original, I can see the logic in trying to put the kibosh on Guitar Hero: World Tour stealing the band-game spotlight. I’m not expecting to be blown away by RB2, but there are a few things that I’d love to see in the sequel:

The Darkness in Rock Band, pretty please.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on March 22, 2008 by MarkEightThree

While searching for info on Starbreeze Studio’s The Darkness [$19.99 at Best Buy during their online only sale!], I came across this monster piece of music that I had completely forgotten about. Why the hell isn’t this in Rock Band? The only logical explanation is that it’s just too much for one Xbox to handle. Every 360 this song is downloaded to would instantly Red Ring and explode into a cloud of glitter and purple dust. If not that, than it must be because there aren’t enough USB ports to plug in all of your instruments plus the all-new panty tossing machine which would have to be released specifically for this song. Actually, that one makes more sense.

Just listen to the riddim of my HEARRRRTTT! This song is going to be stuck in my head all weekend…. not like that’s a bad thing.

A possible peek at future Rock Band DLC?

ScoreHero user Laconic has cracked a .bin file from Rock Band’s “Punk 02″ song pack, and hidden inside was a possible preview of some juicy upcoming DLC content. Over 30 song titles were tucked away in the file and although the artist of each song wasn’t listed, it’s fairly easy to draw conclusions on who each song belongs to. None of the songs have been confirmed yet, but keep in mind Harmonix did promise the release of Nirvana’s Nevermind album as well as 18 Grateful Dead tracks at some point.

It’s amazing that Harmonix has been able to maintain such a steady flow of DLC for Rock Band, especially considering how miserably Guitar Hero III has failed in this department. I’d be concerned about what they’re going to do for an encore, but with word from Harmonix that gamers will be able to use their downloaded tracks in any future installments, Rock Band‘s future looks bright.

As for those aforementioned rumored tracks:
